To the DC Zoning Commission and staff, I ask my comments be included on the public record in ZC Case No. 23-02. And, I ask that the Secretary sign me up to testify on Monday June 26th in opposition to the rezoning application in this case. Rezoning this site to allow high-density amongst this low-rise community is a harm. And it's a harm that under-evaluated and unstudied. It's harmful to displace our police and firestation and the impacts on emergency response times, especially during a crime spike and as the climate-changes extenuate more and more emergencies. This impact remains unstudied. Rezoning the 1.88 acre public site at 1617 U Street is not supported by the DC Comprehensive Plan Generalized Policy Map and must not ignored. It expects a mixed zoning across this site. Not a singular high-density zone across the entire property. Planning means considering impacts on existing neighbors as much as a desire to welcome new ones. It's not happening here. We want the Commission to request OP actually do some more planning here to study the impacts of their unsubstantiated desires for more density, especially if its going toresult in a vastly unaffordable very large building on public land. I oppose this rezoning application for the foregoing reasons and ask you do the same. Regards,
